Using The furs-fossil-repo

OK, lets assume you have downloaded “furs.fossil” from https://sourceforge.net/projects/mecrisp-stellaris-folkdoc/files/furs.fossil/download but if you havent, do that now.

  • Install Fossil DCVS, it’s free, open source and will be in all Distro package managers.

  • Create these directories on your PC

fossil/
fossil/furs/
  • Save the fossil.furs file you downloaded above into:

fossil/
  • CD to the new Fossil “working directory”.

~/fossil]$ cd furs
  • Run the following in the CLI on your computer

~/fossil/furs]$ fossil open ../furs.fossil
  • This will download all files from the furs.fossil to your ‘working directory’ ready for use.

  • The first thing to do is start the Fossil inbuilt webserver and then browse to the local URL it tells you to. This is on your machine, it’s what’s inside furs.fossil, all the documentation, PDF’s, pictures and flowcharts. You can use any browser.

  • Run the following command in the fossil ‘working’ directory you created earlier

~/fossil/furs]$ fossil ui
  • You should see a message telling you the local URL to use in your browser, it will be something like this:

http://localhost:8099<your FURS working directory name>

Thats it! have fun looking thru your new FURS site, and maybe even using FURS and or learning how to use Fossil
